The Thorvilson family have been good neighbors and partners to the Holtans for many years. When Hans and Margit took the younger children to the frontier in North Dakota, they left the two oldest boys, Halvor and Thomas back home in Iowa. They both married Thorvilson girls. Halvor married Gunhild, also called Julia, and Tom married Aaste, Julia’s sister. Here is the Gunhild Julia Thorvilson Holtan Journeys story
Gunhild Thorvilson Holtan Obituary
A remarkable story that touches several of these families, is the story from the late 1600s and early 1700s, 350 years ago, of lJutska, the Danish girl that captured the heart of Jon Fjone and then, eventually, his whole family. Like the Mandt stories, there are many different stories of varied credibility. Here are several. Jutska’s at Fjone by Knut Dukane
A family that was also connected to the Thorvilsons was the Haugen Sonderland family. Aaslaug Gulbrandsdatter Aakre, sister to Thuri who was mother to Gunhild and Aaste who married Holtans, she married Andreas Haugen, and their family has often connected to the Holtans, Thorvilsons and others of our family and nieghbors.
