7. Theoline Tweeten and Henry Sheldon

Henry Sheldon Family   Theoline 1894 – 1987 & Henry 1889 – 1974

Theoline Tweeten Sheldon was born February 6, 1894, at the family farm home in Mt. Valley Township. Theo graduated from Waldorf Academy with a Teaching Certificate. She taught school and then in the town of Kanawha, Iowa. Theo, as she was called, sometimes played the organ at their country church. She played the piano and bought her own with school teaching money. When she moved to North Dakota, she had it shipped up from Iowa. She married Henry Sheldon, son of Charles and Mary (Sathre) Sheldon, at Forest City, Iowa, on March 27, 1916. Henry was born in Washburn, North Dakota, on August 28, 1889. They farmed north of Washburn Township 145N., Range 81 until retiring. They “kept” the school teachers during the school year for many years. Also included in the household was a hired man and sometimes a hired girl. Henry had lived in a new farm home, so when he married Theo, they had a nice home. They first had lamps and later a wind charger and later R.E.A. like several other farmers back then. Theo made and sold butter. She was a good cook and made doughnuts and bread. Orlin can remember helping his mother make pancakes on the range for harvest time. In early years they milked cows, had chickens, pigs, plus grain. Neighboring was the social life, otherwise it was work to keep one busy. They retired in 1946, and moved to Bismarck, North Dakota. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary in Bismarck in 1966. Henry served on the Sverdrup School Board for over 30 years and was on the Falkirk Elevator Board for many years. Theo moved to Bismarck in 1973, and lived in an apartment. Henry had been in Prairieview Nursing Home at Underwood. Henry died January 27, 1974, at the age of 84 1/2. Theo first entered Missouri Slope Lutheran Home before becoming a resident of Prairieview Nursing Home the summer of 1985. She died August 12, 1987, after only a couple days illness at Bismarck. They are buried at Riverview Cemetery near Washburn.

A. Harry Armyle Sheldon was born January 30, 1917, at Washburn, North Dakota. He married Eleanor Hyde of Lodgepool, Nebraska, April 15, 1943. He worked for Remmington Arms and Eleanor did secretarial work. When Henry and Theo retired, they moved back to the farm. They lived there three years. and then continued to farm and built a home in Washburn.They have three children:

  a. Jean Louise Sheldon Martin was born January 3, 1947, at Bismarck. She married Dennis Martin September 16, 1966

  b. James Harry Sheldon was born April 24, 1952, at Bismarck, North Dakota. He married Marlene Meares of Cleveland, Ohio, June 24, 1978.

B: Orlen Hoveland Sheldon was born July 10, 1918, at his parents home near Washburn, North Dakota. He married Eleanor Scheon, January 17, 1953, at her paternal grandparents’ home in Ortonville, Minnesota. A wedding in front of the fireplace with a sit- down supper of creamed chicken on rosettes, salad and wedding cake for about 36 guests was very special. They honeymooned for three weeks through the southern states also Florida, Louisiana, back to Chicago, Minneapolis, and on to Washburn to the Henry Sheldon farm six miles north of town where Orlen was born and lived for 65 years before moving to Washburn, February 2, 1985. Eleanor taught Home Economics before they were married. Orlen continues to work on the farm with George. They enjoy being active grandparents. Orlen loves to fish and they do some traveling. They have four children:

  a. Andrea Jane Sheldon Holtan was born December 4, 1953. She graduated from North Dakota State University in 1975, in Home Economics. She married Bradley Holtan on June 1, 1975. They have the Super Valu Store in Beach, North Dakota. They are active young people. Laura and Alison are in 4-H, take piano lessons. Laura is in band and plays the same instrument her mother had, clarinet. Andrea teaches at school, Title I in High School, she also has piano students in her home, helps with 4-H and church. Hobbies and interests are crocheting, crafts and golf. Bradley enjoys golf, reading and computer class. Andrea is going to Minot State Summer School for Master’s Program in teaching children with learning disabilities.

  b. George Clay Sheldon was born December 4, 1955. He married Laurie Huckle, July 7, 1984, at Valley City, North Dakota. Laurie is a nurse and works part-time for Home Medical Resources of Bismarck, visiting patients in our area. George, Laurie and family farm and live on the former Henry and Orlen Sheldon farm, George loves to fish.

  c. Linnea Marie Sheldon Schaible was born March 13, 1959. She graduated from the University of North Dakota in Occupational Therapy. Her first position was at Med Center One in Bismarck. She married Richard Schaible, June 22, 1985, and lived in Bismarck until July 1989, when they moved to Nashville, Tennessee. Richard is a pilot and began work with American Eagle of Nashville. Linnea began work at Donelson Hospital doing occupational therapy in the Psych. Ward four days a week. They interests are mostly taking care of job, home and children with little time for hobbies but Richard does love fishing, hunting and basketball.

 d. Richard Orlen Sheldon was born July 22, 1956, and graduated from North Dakota State University in May of 1989, in Criminal Justice and is interested in Law Enforcement in the Minneapolis area.

C: Marjorie Sheldon Langford was born December 29, 1920, at her parents’ home near Washburn, North Dakota. She married James Poe, September 15, 1941. They lived in San Diego before and after he served in the army. He passed away August 12, 1948. She married Dale Langford, June 6, 1959. He passed away June 1, 1964. Marjorie worked at the County Agents Office in Washburn before her marriage. In 1953, she worked for Phillips Petroleum Company, in the Land Department for two years, then at Standard Oil Company, in the Crude Oil Purchasing Department, for 17 years. She has worked in Med Center One for almost 13 years and will retire this July. She enjoys Symphony Orchestra Concerts, their home high school orchestra and band concerts and plays. Hobbies are embroidery and handwork. She has two children:

  a. Nedra Poe Mihalik was born May 29, 1943. She graduated from St. Olaf College. She played with the Kansas City Symphony for two years. She married Istvan Mihalik, July 15, 1967, and worked as a Budget Analyst for the University of Maryland in the Medical Department.

  b. Charles Sheldon Poe was born December 30, 1946, he graduated from North Dakota State School of Science. has his own Painting and Papering Business in Denver, Colorado. He married Janice Funk, June 27, 1970.
